#51 - Split with Vitauct

The picture on this track is of a burnt out car near Magasin 4 in Brussels, when Gets Worse supported Coffins in 2019. About a month after this I played my last set of gigs with Gets Worse and was feeling pretty burned out, playing the final tour with Hundred Year Old Man the following month, and the last with Aubzagl a couple months after that. I hope I will play some more gigs some day, but if not, I've had a good run, around 900 in 25 countries over the course of about 23 years.

A story emerges from the picture on this track, of the pub getting demolished near the flats I spent the first 18 years of my life. Nearly the entire area got pulled down eventually and is hardly recognisable now. The last time I went that way 10 years ago, I couldn't work out which was the bus stop that used to be right outside my place. To be honest it needed it as it was swamped with drugs, deaths and dickheads. 'Manly men' with status dogs that they treated like shit and turned them into savages that terrorised me and a bunch of other local kids, people doing heroin on the streets, and the local gluesniffer Bod who was something of a celebrity! I think that says a lot. School days. The happiest days of your life. Fuck that. All it did was set me up for a life riddled with depression, anxiety and a general dim view of humanity... ...BUT (let's try for positives eh) I had my little alarm clock radio with the static noise in between channels (mentioned during the Hatiyar split release, for those following the story), the John Peel and Rock shows, a 6 foot snooker/pool table, a ZX Spectrum 48k with the rubber keys (for those also following the story, further back, see OWL27 for that!), and reclused as much as I could into my own world of relative safety. At least it brought me up to (try) not to be (too much) of a dickhead, and got me into 'the alternative', music and general life, so, that's something. It guided me away from whatever the 'norms of society' are, because, absolutely fuck that bullshit as well. Whilst there are times that are incredibly difficult in the brain especially, nowadays (the last couple of weeks for example have been fucking atrocious in this sense), and will be forever, because that's how I am wired, at least I don't have to go back to those times. I felt no conscious connection to anything, like I was switched off, and I would spend months with the black cloud hanging right over my head. At least now I can see that cloud approaching and try do something to stop or avoid the rain it brings. Well, that was cheery. Funny what one image can stir up in the mind. Thank you if you had a read 🙏

About the picture on this track.... The first of the 11 minutes, the 'engine's revving' build up to a 4 count in, pause then kick in! It is intended as my nod of respect to the 90s Japanese noise scene, so I hope the beginning is enough to intrigue you into listening to the rest. This is the most intense track of my 5 on the split with Vitauct. The sounds influenced (chose) the title which influenced the sample and then the photo, but this (and other photos from the event) are always in mind anyway, because it is one of the most totally ridiculous stories in all music history. Also, The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy is one of my favourite books (not that I've ever read anywhere near as much as I know I should have), and also the 80s TV series and the 2005 film are all fantastic, so, it was nice to use a relevant sample from that.

I had to use part of this masterpiece album cover as the picture for this track once the title was in place!

I will keep this simple, if you are not doing well, please shout up, to anyone. If it's the first time you've asked for help, it will get easier after that first time, just please give yourself that chance.

about

This is available on amazing looking limited tape (20 copies) from Peruvian label Pichula Records. www.facebook.com/pichularecords/posts/1954494308050256

-> Words from Pichula (Facebook translated, sorry if not quite correct).

Have you ever imagined the sound of the End of the World? The sound of when everything that sounds harmonious and matches the perfection of nature is destroyed by the bloody machines and leaves us with only the sound of desolation as the only sign of life ☠️

Ok Ok.. here's some of that. Every destruction lasts half an hour. What gives a total of 1 hour. Enough to destroy the world noo? Jajajaa.

On the one hand we have from England: THE OWL with a very interesting Harsh Noise with a game of sounds to 2 very differentiated channels, which stuns very easily, Analog distortions and an infinity of appliances, appliances or anything you find at home.
-> This band reminds me of old Japan Noise classics, Highly Recommended 😍😍😍

Then on the other side we have VITAUCT from far away Ukraine with a similar proposal, but More industrial and would also say, a darker sound, to Diabolico. Very routine for moments, but with very sudden changes in strategic parts that make you jump. It's good for black mass.
This band has the classic style that never lose the bands of those parts of the planet, this makes VITAUCT ultra recommended.

In conclusion, a very entertaining Split to enjoy it at all times if yours is the rich noise... Here's what you're looking for.

My part was done in many attempts between October 10th 2020 and January 21st 2021.

I was really pleased to be able to do this split with the very hard-hitting sounds of Vitauct from Ukraine, and that this hour long assault is out on Pichula Records in Peru (see below for details).

VITAUCT
Industrial artist from Khmelnytskyi (Ukraine) combining death industrial sounds with noise and drone ambient elements. You can listen to a lot of releases here... Very recommended from The Owl as well!
