This smell reminds me of nights
spent in strange bars and dark cities
of days that remain uncountable
and of mornings that never existed
it brings forth pulsating movements
vociferous beats penetrating feet
deep sounds in perpetual crowds
it reminds me of other smells
the dampness of rain on summer concrete
of whiskey, too much whiskey
perfume and sweat and tobacconists
with poorly wrapped paper flowers
drinking liquorish from the spout
of coffee or tea and soft skin
so icy and thin
our feet buckled onto the floor
a door
left ajar
to remember these things
I wished to rescind
