about

61 minutes across 9 tracks, of solemn but uplifting, slow moving, intentionally lo-fi and crackling, cathartic dark drone sounds.

All source sounds are from recordings I've made that were never finished or fully released, dating back to my earliest pseudonym Whoever in 1996, up to June 2022.

Those sounds were deformed, reformed and reimagined between June 2nd and August 6th 2022.

Some of the original sounds were nearly lost into dust; broken or crumbling tapes, scratched and semi-corrupt CD back ups, which leads to the warped and weird effects I had to play with, which I then spent a long time making them even more warped and defective.

I hope the emotions in these sounds will shine through.
They have been very cathartic for me to work on.
See the 'lyrics' for some more insights into what this meant for me.

All photos taken by me around Leeds in 2013, 2016 and 2020. I mention the years because, along with the origins of the sounds, it really shows that you never know when things will become more relevant and important than they were at the time.

This album is heavily influenced by the Utopia soundtrack by Cristobal Tapia de Veer, The Aphex Twin 'Selected Ambient Works Volume II', Tortoise 'Millions Now Living Will Never Die', William Basinski 'Disintegration Loops', The Caretaker - 'Everywhere At The End Of Time', plus my own listening and making of dark ambient and minimal music over the last 30 years.

Dark room and headphones for optimal results.
I promise no jolting surprises.
Thank you for listening.

I want to say a huge thanks to Przemyslaw at Gates Of Hypnos for releasing this on his incredible and truly inspirational netlabel. He has been supportive of my endeavours for a while, and it is really fulfilling to be able to have an Owl release hosted on there.
