All the accompanying artwork (8 images) and the video for 'On The Hunt For Survivors'. This combines the very clever Shade Shift game playthrough, and a 'Neurons & Synapses' visual depicting 'neuronal connections between the amygdala, which is responsible for emotions and feelings of fear'. I am very pleased with my edit so I hope you will give it a watch.

1.
The soundtrack to discovering myself in the farthest reaches of the intangible.
2.
Climbing all the stairs to arrive at a door that reveals your entire life waiting to be lived again. I hope you like the riff in the middle of this!
3.
First Is The Shift, Then Is The Space Almost made it on to the 'Adventures In Minimalism' album, but it feels like a pivotal middle-of-the-album direction change.
4.
One Riff To Rule Them All (Version 1). There's a lot going on here! This is part of a 4 hour guitar improvisation that also yielded a full separate album (in the works). OH, and there are EXPLOSIONS and an apocalyptic ending. Okay, so this is kinda like a madness, but it works for me... You must be intrigued now, right?
5.
The animated video should explain the connection between title and dissonant concepts of the album, which should then show why these tracks are now all together and in the order that they are, collected together in the visuals that it is. If you like to listen to music with your eyes closed and doing nothing else, you can definitely do that with this album, trust me.

about

48 minute mash up of all kinds of styles I like, made in 6 months using 7 string guitar, synth and voice. Covering dark/cinematic ambient/drone, flickering rhythms, squelchy keyboard sounds, death metal and reversed guitar, noise, abstract loops and roaming in experimental mindsets. Also on the fine arrhythNia records label.

The theme relates to the wonders of how the brain makes connections, and my own journey of drink and drug addiction which took the lives of many of my brain cells over a 30 year period, and furthermore my battle for learning Czech and making entirely new kinds of neural links, discovering how strange it is to actually be able to feel the paths form in your brain.

released April 25, 2023

There has been another interesting journey for the sounds I now present to you as Neural Paths. They were made between September 30th 2022 and March 24th 2023, using Ibanez 7 string guitar, Arturia synth, voice, Wavepad, Reaper. The main skeletons were made within the first 5 days, and 95% of the pieces were finished before the end of October; then things started getting weird in my brain.

4 and 5 were originally intended to be released as a single 20 minutes 22 seconds piece called 'The Year' on New Year's Eve 2022, but I was right in the middle of an absolute divebomb in confidence for everything, and couldn't let go of it. Even though I knew that track was complete, and it felt like an interesting concept, I still couldn't do it.

Eventually, I had no choice but to let go of that idea once 2023 got swinging. I noticed that it fit well with the other 3 tracks that were in 2 different folders at that time, despite the unexpected instrument, style and mood shift that 'One Year' brings about.

Once the tracks were all together in their one folder, all I did in the following 2 months was a few slight changes in EQ of all the tracks to make them meld together a bit more coherently, then in mid March I finished the visual and text to tie it all even tighter together.

/////

This album has been influenced by Tom and (and also hosted on) his netlabel arrhythNia records. I set out trying to make something of my wild electronic glitchy noisy style for him, but since he has also played in bands in his time, the inclusion of the 4th track didn't seem so disparate. Also, since plenty of the releases on the page uses his photography for the cover art, I asked him to send me some photos of his to adapt (which then helped me hone further in on the concepts).
