Grandpa Grim This was my introduction to The Owl. Wow! Brilliant without being forced. The production is flawless. That separation that really makes it come alive. Transporting the listener to these unrelenting environments. I can feel the desolation. Each track stands alone, yet the continuity weaves it together making the parts a whole piece. This isn't for everybody but everybody should get it. This is art. A mesmerizing trip through the darkness and isolation in us all and the world. Masterpiece work. Favorite track: Hornstrandir.

danvoid Slow transition from normal human being to extraterrestrial snow-like substance. Cool. That's what isolation does.

YomaBarr Music doesn't scare me, normally.
But this, I can't take this all in one go. Maybe later, when I grow used to it.
One, two pieces at a time. Incredible. Favorite track: Hornstrandir.

about

*My second Bandcamp New & Notable, April 4th 2021* Crazy feeling!

An auditory tale of isolated life, surrounded by Winter darkness, biting cold, daily difficulties, the battle that the body and moreso the mind must survive, as well as the catharsis of the other side.

Each song is named after incredibly remote towns and cities (in Iceland, Russia, Norway, Greenland, Antarctic and Canada) that have extreme low temperatures (Oymyakon has reports of -90!), and is about just how much the human spirit can endure.

Of course, the topic of hibernation and isolation applies to people in less severe climates, and all year round as well, as the battle in the mind can take you to some severely cold places, especially thinking of what the world is enduring at the moment.

There is always a hope to push through to the other side of the struggle, and achieve catharsis, new strength for mind and body.

Headphones and darkness (and wav/flac if downloading) are most definitely advised for this sometimes cold, dark ambient noise drone journey with a few twists, especially for 'Itto', which literally reaches disintegration point at times (to represent the bleakest times), before clarifying itself and leading you into a different journey for the remaining part of the album, with its stronger and brighter closing two songs.

When there feels like no relent of the overwhelming sadness...
When it feels like everything is disintegrating....
When the internal noise is at its highest...
You can always find the final joule of fortitude.

Every year gets harder as it gets easier.
This is the soundtrack of my mind in these times.
